Just a heads up

I just wanted to let my clients know that right now I have limited access to email. My 6-year-old son Ethan picked up an infection in his foot that has required IV therapy at the hospital 2x’s/day. We have been going back and forth for treatment and tomorrow he also has to be reassessed through the ER in addition to the IV therapy (which hopefully won’t take as long as the original 5-hour ER visit!). I’m hoping that he’ll get the all clear tomorrow and I’ll be able to catch up again this weekend on my inbox and to-do list. Thanks for understanding!

Delores

Delores and Ken came out from North Vancouver for a maternity session at my home, and I’m so glad we scheduled it when we did. I went on holidays the day after their session, and just a few days after I returned she emailed me that her water had broken! I can’t wait to hear the exciting news and meet their little one for a newborn session.

Delores mentioned that they loved B&W photography, and they wanted lots of belly/studio type shots, of course I was happy to oblige. But I did sneak in some color and we also headed outdoors to grab some shots at the end of the session. These two were total troopers, especially considering that Delores was just a few weeks away from her due date and it was super duper hot that day. Thanks for a great session you two!

Here are a few favorites from their session:

See the cute pink toenails peeking out? :)

I think Delores may be my most favorite client. I’ve had the vision for ages to a do a bathtub maternity shoot, and she was totally game! My bathroom works well because of all the white tile that reflects light beautifully. I applied a little vintage to this one. Isn’t she beautiful?!:

Those toes again! :)

Isn’t this shirt just adorable?

We’ve had this lovely pile of rocks covered in weeds for a few years in our backyard, and I’ve been wanting to do a shoot with a baby here for a very long time, and it’s just never happened. So I was pretty excited to drag them outside to take advantage of the gorgeous light and beautiful weeds. :) And it’s a good thing too, as of this week the pile is gone!

One of my favorites…beautiful light, beautiful couple. :)

Deanne

I think I gave a few shrieks of glee when I arrived at Deanne and Cole’s house and saw their gorgeous backyard, I knew it would be perfect for their maternity session (and I was busy gathering ideas for their newborn session, which I’ll be sharing here soon). Everything is so lush and green, and the rustic bench was just perfect! Fortunately we had nice weather too, and for those of you who live in Abbotsford know that in the last few weeks the weather has been rather unpredictable and definitely not spring/summer-like at all.

It took a bit for Ava to warm up to me, but you certainly can’t tell in this shot, can you? She’s an adorable and spunky 3-year old.

I enlisted Ava’s help to take some pictures with my ‘camera’, aka as my memory card case :)

Told you the yard was gorgeous, and so is Deanne! This was just two weeks shy of her due date and baby Desmond’s arrival:

We headed out to a location nearby, and I just love the long grass! And isn’t that maternity shirt fabulous?

More coming from Desmond’s baby session soon!

Carmen

Carmen is one of those people who is simply beautiful on both the inside and the outside. You may recognize her from some of their family pictures I have on my website.

I always enjoy spending time with her. Not only is she a sister to a dear friend of mine, she’s also a fabulous photographer…so we always have lots of talking to do! (My apologies to her husband John for the rather *ahem* varied topics we covered during this session!). It’s always a neat opportunity to work with another photographer who knows what looks good from my end of the lens. Combine that with her modeling experience when she was a teenager, and you’ve got a dynamite session with someone who knows her way around both ends of the camera.

Thanks so much Carmen, it was great to see you and your family again! Sending you warm wishes for a smooth last few weeks of your pregnancy. I can’t wait to meet your new little bundle of joy. :)

PS A big thank you to everyone who popped in on my previous post and said hi! It was so nice to ‘meet’ you all!

Here’s a few of my faves from the session…doesn’t she look amazing?:

These two are just like two madly in love teenagers, it was so cute. :)

They had this amazing location just minutes from there house, and we had gorgeous sunshine!

A little more playing with texture:

And a bunch of black and whites, as I know Carmen is a huge fan of B&W photography, and I think these images lend themselves perfectly to a nice crisp B&W:

Not only are they totally in love, aren’t they a gorgeous couple?

And here’s the big brother and big sister who can’t wait to meet the baby:

Danielle

I was so excited when Danielle contacted me for the Belly to Baby Package and told me she was expecting twins. I’ve always had a special fascination with twins and remember being a little girl and desperately wishing I had an identical twin sister (kinda like Jessica & Elizabeth from Sweet Valley High! haha). Well Danielle and Matt’s two little boys can live out my childhood dream once they make their much awaited and anticipated appearance. I can’t wait to meet them for their newborn session.

Here are a few of my favorite shots from the maternity session…I had a lot of fun with trying out some different belly shots.

I love the dramatic effect in this image:

And even though it was cold, rainy and windy, these two bravely ventured outside for a few images to complete the session. It was definitely worth it.

Thanks again Danielle and Matt. I look forward to seeing you, and meeting your boys, soon!

Susan

I’ve known Sue for probably about 12 years now, but I actually met her through her husband Ken. Ken was almost my next door neighbors for several years in elementary school, and we went to the same schools all the way from grade one to grade twelve. I think there’s something so cool about having that kind of history with friends.

Not only is Sue beautiful on the inside and out, she also wins trooper of the week award. They just moved into their beautiful new home last weekend while she was 9 months pregnant. She’s definitely my hero (I clearly remember moving when I was 3 weeks pregnant, and I thought I was going to die.) But Sue pulled it off with style…I think her house may be more decorated than mine, and we’ve lived in our home for over two years now!

We’re going out of town to celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving this weekend (for any wanna-be thieves…we have house-sitters and an alarm. Plus I’m taking all my camera equipment along. :) haha) but I wanted to share a few of my favorite images from our PhotoSession, because I know Sue is dying to see them! :)

I still can’t get over how amazing she looks. Can you believe this is #3 for her?

Sue and Ken have such a fun relationship, and I loved that I was able to capture some of the essence of that with this image.

Even though this picture captures a much more introspective and serious Sue than most people see, there’s something about it that I love.

Marietta & Jake

I was so excited when Marietta booked a Belly to Baby package. There’s something extra special about the journey to parenthood and the birth of a family. It’s such an amazing, miraculous and life changing time in a couple’s life, and I’m always honored to be asked to capture a part of that journey. I really wanted this to reflect that time and capture these last few days of just the two of them.

Marietta & Jake also happen to live on this amazing piece of property that is home to a horse show park with so many great shooting locations. Add to that the most fun and amazing laugh ever (Marietta), one very calm but excited father to be (Jake), an adorable dog (Jack) and beautiful evening light…together they made for an amazing PhotoSession.

Thanks again you two. I know you’re going to make wonderful parents. I can’t wait to meet your new little bundle of joy!

I’m really loving the American Gothic poses right now. I’m thinking of doing one of these every session and making a little album of them or something. Just for fun. :)

We had to get the horses in on the action too. Fortunately they cooperated. As soon as they saw the dog Jack they came right on over.

Doesn’t she look amazing? I can’t believe she’s 9 months pregnant.

Jake and Jack, are kind of similar names, wouldn’t you agree? Right before this picture I completely embarassed myself by slapping my leg and calling for the dog by calling him Jake instead of Jack. Oops! Sorry Jake! :)
