The Lemkes

This session is from a family that happens to be some of my very favorite super-heroes. Mrs. Allana (as my son Ethan called her) played an incredible role in our lives. When he was just a wee babe (7-months old) he went to their home four half-days per week for babysitting. They not only opened their home, but also their hearts to him, and he became an honorary family member for the next 3 1/2 years. They have made the most amazing and lasting impact on him, and all of us. He loved going there, and not once did I have to worry or feel guilty for working. There simply aren’t words that can sum up my gratitude for everything they have done for us.

This family is one of such strong faith and integrity. I’ve been so inspired and humbled by them and everything they have done not only for us and our family, but for their friends/family/church/community. They are truly one-of-a-kind (or should that be five-of-a-kind??).

This turned into a mini-session as it was sooooo cold outside that day, but we still managed to get some great shots in between the kids running around to keep warm! I just loved the pink that the girls were wearing and the pop of color it added.

We got some great shots of the kids, this one was one of my favorites:

This one takes the cake I think…I can’t help but crack up when I see this one!!

Jakob is the oldest, and man does this kid have a good head on his shoulders. He’s such a good big brother:

I can’t get over how grown up Elias is getting…I think he’s going to be tall just like his Dad. He was such a ham on this shoot, it was so fun!

I just love this picture of Natalia….she is such a girlie girl and so full of spunk. Her and Ethan used to play dollies for hours on end while her big brothers were being homeschooled (But sshhhh! Don’t tell Ethan I told you. :) )

And Miss Noel…the baby of the family. She was pretty cold by the time we took her individual pictures, but we still managed to get a cute shot of her. She is positively adorable!

Not only are they amazing people, but they make a great looking couple too!

Madeleine

I thought it was so neat when I got a call from this sweet little girl’s uncle wanting to give his sister a PhotoSession for a baby gift. How cool is that? Madeleine is now two months old and is such an incredibly beautiful little girl, full of smiles and giggles (especially for her mama!), and she was super good throughout the shoot and all the different poses/setups we did.

I truly enjoyed this shoot…Allison and I had lots of fun talking babies, and I got some great decorating ideas from their beautiful home! Mike was able to pop home to see his girls, and of course we squeezed in a few pictures with him too. It was such a pleasure to see this lovely family interacting and enjoying each other’s company. It really brought me back to my early days as a parent, such a special time in one’s life!

Evan

I had the pleasure of photographing this handsome little guy last week. I just melted when I saw his gorgeous chocolate brown eyes and beautiful hair. He was so alert for the first portion of the shoot, and he was watching my camera quite closely…it was adorable!

Being the first child for Sarb and Lucky, as well as the first grandchild for both sets of grandparents, Evan is one very lucky (no pun intended!) boy indeed. Some of the extended family joined us for the shoot, and I really enjoyed being able to take some generational photos for them in addition to the newborn shots.

Here are a few of my favorites from the session:

Sarb and her mom both loved the wing picture I did for Allison, so I couldn’t resist doing one for them too!

Daddy has the magic touch with his little guy…Evan loved this hold, and was sleeping within minutes.

They did a fabulous job decorating his room!

The beautiful family :) When I arrived I saw this gorgeous bench in their entry way, and just had to use it for some of the pictures!

The Veldman Family

Every once in a while, my five-year-old son Ethan asks me if super-heroes are real. And I always tell him that I believe there are lots of everyday super-heroes. The first few times I told him this, he looked at me funny and asked a lot of questions. Now he responds my naming some of my favorite everyday super-heroes. And Sarah is definitely one of them. I met her way back in highschool, and we’ve been friends ever since. It’s been pretty cool to see her blossom over the last ten years as a mama…and as mama to five! (see, told ya she was a super-hero!). And Mark, well he’s a pretty good guy too. And, he doesn’t complain too much about the long distance bills for Sarah and I’s regular cross-border telephone conversations. :)

I love PhotoSessions like this because it really gives me the chance to get to know the kids a bit better when I can take some pictures of them one-on-one. I tell you, these two older girls are going to make good mamas one day too. Blake, (who is the same age as Ethan - 5) was a total ham. And the two ‘babies’ of the family (who are 14 months apart…I did mention Sarah’s a super-hero, right??) Zander and Ava kept us all on our toes…but aren’t they adorable?!

I hope you guys had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I’ll be sending you a link to your slideshow in the next few days.

This was a fun one…it was pretty cold out, and this was the perfect way to warm up!

Bebbinar Photography Seminar

A few weeks ago, I had the incredible opportunity to attend a photography seminar by the amazing Bebbs. It was such an amazing experience. The Bebb’s were awesome and I learned so much from them and also from laura novak. Words aren’t enough to sum up this incredible week. From meeting and learning from the best of the best, to interacting and talking shop with incredible photographers who share my passion for photography, to making new friends, to learning and growing….it was fantastic. For any photographers reading this, get your name on the list! This is something you don’t want to miss!

I wanted to share a few images from the shooting assignment we had. We got to work with Cecilia, a local model who was excellent. All of the pictures are from a few square blocks by the Bebb’s studio in North Vancouver…there were so many perfect nooks and crannies for taking pictures, I loved it! Here are some of my faves:

It was rainy and overcast, but fortunately Cecilia took her umbrella along.

Gift Certificates

I wanted to let my readers know that I’m now offering gift certificates. They make great gifts (baby, anniversary, birthday, Christmas, etc). Or if you’re wanting one for yourself, be sure to put it on your Christmas wish list! Send me an email at rludwigphoto@gmail.com and I’ll hook you up. :)

Storyboards

One of my favorite ways to showcase images from PhotoSessions, is in the form of a storyboard. I love the story that multiple images can tell!

Here is one of my favorites from a recent session with the Leyenhorsts. During the ordering session, we selected 4 images and combined them in this storyboard format. This image was digitally matted, printed as a 16×20 and then mounted and laminated. It just needs a frame and it’ll be ready to showcase in their home. I love how it turned out and I can’t wait for them to see the finished product!

Olivia’s Birth Announcement

Custom designed birth announcements are one of the personalized services I offer to my clients, and this is the one I did for Olivia. It was my favorite image from her Newborn PhotoSession, and her parents loved it too and wanted to use it for their 4×8 birth announcement.

For any PhotoSession that you have with me, you can request custom announcements (ie birthday party, adoption), family pictures to give out, christmas cards, etc. 25 birth announcements are also included in my Belly to Baby Session Package and my Baby’s First Year Session Package. Check my website www.rachelludwigphotography.com under Investment for more details on these packages.

Website Updates

I updated some of the images on my website (the homepage images and the Bellies gallery). If you’ve had a recent session, you might find yourself! There’ll hopefully be some more updates in the next couple days to the Families and Kids galleries…keep your eyes open. :)

I also added some pricing under the Investment tab of the site for session albums. These are gorgeous soft leather albums that come in their own silk lined boxes. The 14-image accordian albums are perfect gifts for grandparents, or to carry around in your purse. And the larger 40-image albums are a great way to get the images from your session in a beautiful display piece. Not to mention, they are a great price!

PS A few people had mentioned that it was taking a bit long for the galleries to load…I’ve reduced the file sizes of the images a bit, so if you could let me know if you notice a difference, that would be great.

Fully Booked *Edited to Add: I Spoke to Soon!*

**I had a cancellation for Saturday November 24th. If you’re interested in booking a Christmas Card Mini Session or regular PhotoSession, please email me for details. Thanks!*

I just wanted to let everyone know that I’m now fully booked for sessions before Christmas. I will still accept bookings for maternity, newborn or birth sessions (remember, the ideal time for a maternity session is between 32 and 36 weeks, and for a newborn in the first ten days, so if you’re interested in one of these sessions, email me now so we can set some tentative dates). Family or child(ren) sessions will commence again in January. Email me at rludwigphotog@gmail.com if you’d like to reserve a spot for the new year!

And because I love to post with a picture, I’ll include one that I forgot when I posted a sneak peek of Allison’s session. Isn’t that sign just adorable? (and the baby is pretty darn cute too!):
